Sydney Water – North West Treatment Hub Growth Program

Formwork, Reinforcement & Concrete (FRP) – Dryer & Carboniser Facilities

Kelko Construction was engaged by John Holland to deliver specialist formwork, reinforcement and concrete (FRP) works for the dryer and carboniser facilities as part of Sydney Water’s North West Treatment Hub Growth Program at the Riverstone Water Resource Recovery Facility.

This scope formed a key component of the sludge treatment and thermal processing infrastructure and involved the construction of multiple reinforced concrete structures supporting electrical, mechanical and process systems within a highly coordinated construction environment.

Key elements of the scope included:

  • HV and LV Switchrooms – FRP works for critical electrical infrastructure
  • 1st Flush Tank – reinforced concrete process tank construction
  • Heater Building – structural concrete works supporting thermal treatment systems
  • Dryer Building – FRP construction for sludge drying operations
  • Dried Sludge Silo Slab – heavily reinforced slab supporting storage infrastructure
  • Carboniser Building – structural concrete works for thermal carbonisation processes
  • Outloading Silo Slab – reinforced slab construction for material handling and dispatch
  • Peroxide Bund – bunded containment structures for chemical storage
  • Fire Water Tank Foundation Slab – structural slab supporting fire protection systems
  • Effluent Water Slab – reinforced concrete slab for process water management

The works is currently being delivered across multiple staged milestones and requires close coordination with adjacent trades and systems to meet program, safety and quality requirements. Kelko Construction’s involvement highlights our capability in delivering complex, high-value FRP packages for water, wastewater and industrial process infrastructure.

Sydney Water - North West Treatment Hub Growth Program Formwork, Reinforcement & Concrete (FRP) – Inlet & Biosolids Structures (Grit Vortex)

Kelko Construction was engaged by John Holland to deliver specialist formwork, reinforcement and concrete (FRP) works as part of the North West Treatment Hub Growth Program at the Riverstone Water Resource Recovery Facility, on behalf of Sydney Water.

Our scope comprises the construction of critical structural elements associated with the inlet works and biosolids processing infrastructure, supporting the expansion and long-term capacity of the treatment facility. The works were delivered across multiple staged structures and required close coordination within a live operational environment.

Key elements of the scope included:

  • Grit Vortex and Grit Vortex Pump Pit – FRP construction of reinforced concrete process structures
  • Inlet Works – structural concrete works adjacent to live sewer infrastructure
  • Penstock Slab Extension – reinforced concrete slab extensions to accommodate mechanical installations
  • WAS Thickening Building – FRP works for biosolids thickening infrastructure
  • Access Road and Semi-Mounted Kerb – reinforced concrete works supporting site access and operations

The project required a high level of planning, quality assurance, and interface management with other contractors to ensure safety, program certainty, and compliance with Sydney Water standards. Kelko Construction’s involvement reflects our capability in delivering complex civil and water infrastructure structures, particularly within constrained and operational environments.
